  • Black V was simply everything we imagined, and more!  The show was a great success, and we at Phuong My are so proud of everyone involved.  Not only did Phuong My get to show her beautiful all-black collection, but it was also an event where San Francisco fashion lovers could come together to celebrate the many talents of Bay-area designers including Ken Chen, Cari Borja, G.B. Shrive Designs, Eugene Huang, Kaatje Design, Jay Nicolas Sario, Guzel Jewelry Design, LHC Couture, Homme by Dahae Kim and Menk.
Madrone Studios was the perfect venue to hold the event.  The large, open space of the main room only added to the ambiance that was Black V.  Astonish Magazine never ceases to amaze us with top notch press capabilities, and the amazing Bay-area fashion-event planner Owen Beunaventura did an amazing job at organizing the show.
A crowd favorite from Phuong My’s all-black collection was the bubble dress, a brown and black strapless stripped bubble dress that caused a gasp you could hear from backstage (additional photos to the left)!  Mask accessories and jewelry by Eugene Huang only added to Phuong My’s signature elegance, while still incorporating a masquerade type vibe.  Although it was no surprise, Phuong My wowed the crowd once again!  And we couldn’t be prouder.  It was a memorable night indeed.

  • Is everyone else as excited about Black V as we are?  A beautiful showcase where Phuong My and many other talented Bay-area designers can premiere their new dark-inspired looks? You should be!  Because the truth is it will be an amazing event, it is only $30, and the proceeds are going to a great cause.
However, this is not the first time Phuong My and her designs have garnered great press.  Not only did she make the pages of the prestigious Elle Vietnam, but she has also been featured in many other luxury publications such as Astonish Magazine, Haute Magazine, Asterisk Magazine, Truxury Magazine, and many more.
There are also some really amazing projects up for grabs in upcoming months, that we will have to keep secret for now.. To keep updated on Phuong My news, events, and anything press related, keep checking our Facebook fan-page and blog.  Hope to see you at Black V!

  • Have you ever had the urge to venture into your dark side?  Next weekend, the Black V Fashion & Masquerade Event will give Bay-area emerging designers their chance to do that, and the outcome will surely be something amazing.
On May 21, 2011, at the Madrone Studios in SOMA, Phuong My will show her new, edgy collection solely inspired by the dark side of fashion, with a discrete incorporation of gold.  Extremely talented designers’ Jay Nicolas Sario, Homme by Dahae Kim, GB Shrive, LHC Couture, Menk, Ken Chen SF and Cari Borja will establish their new dark side alongside Phuong My.
What’s most amazing about this event, however, is that it is completely student organized, and the proceeds of the show will be donated to the Fashion Department at the City College of San Francisco.
If you’re interested in watching this event unfold, tickets are currently on sale for $30 at www.blackvsf.com.  The show will definitely be something to remember.  Have you ever had the urge to venture into your dark side?  Next weekend, the Black V Fashion & Masquerade Event will give Bay-area emerging designers their chance to do that, and the outcome will surely be something amazing.

  • The Phuong My Look-Book has arrived!  The process to create the look-book of Phuong My’s collection was a long, strenuous process with many hardworking people involved.. That is why we at Phuong My are so proud to announce that the completed version is here.  Phuong My’s delicate, beautiful garments, combined with the talent of photographer Lasonic Sivongxay and all others involved, has made the new look-book something that viewers can truly be inspired by.
The look-book is split into four different sections that all adhere to a certain mood and aesthetic.. However, some garments are put into more than one section.  The first is “Belle Fleur”, a group of garments (mostly dresses) that Phuong My designed with an inspiration from spring and flowers, which came through in her construction of large, beautiful floral shapes.  The second is “For A Beautiful Girl To Survive Through The Cold Weather”, which is focused on garments that can be comfortably worn in moderate to cold weather, with cooler color palate.  “Seven Different Shades of Cream”, the second section, is filled with her garments that are of a cream tone. And last but not least, the “Summer Love” section are mostly separates, and some dresses, that can be comfortably worn in moderate to warm weather, with a warmer color palate.
For now, the new lookbook will only be sent to private clients and industry people only.  However, in the future, Phuong My fans will have a chance recieve them freely.  Stay tuned for more information, and don’t forget to check us out and follow/like us on Facebook and Twitter!

The photo-shoot was organized and worked by a number of amazing, talented artists, including photographer Lasonic  Sivongxay, make-up artist Valerie Vonprisk, hair-stylist Reyna Soto, and model Lu Zhang.  Together, with Phuong My and her assistants, the team creatively and effectively shot the photographs for the look-book. which will be coming out soon (will be posted on this blog and on the Facebook fan-page).  Until then, here are some sneak peek photos at the photo shoot, and how our work is done behind the camera.  Remember to stay tuned for the official look-book! The behind-the-scenes Phuong My look-book photo shoot pictures are here!  Last weekend, Phuong My and her assistants (Chiharu Iijima, Deborah Chong, Alex Grant) took a quick road trip to Los Angeles to finally finish the photo shoot for the look-book of Phuong My’s collection.  Over 50 garments were used in the photo shoot, with some garments being used in more than one look.

  • Welcome to the blog of San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles based fashion designer, Phuong My.
Phuong My has graced the fashion world with her powerful, unique designs with stunning detail to shape and form, while still maintaining a hand sewn, delicate aesthetic; a look that is original to the Phuong My brand.  She is known for playing with silhouettes, and using drape to perfect the body in a very elegant way. She also focuses on collaborating the basics of Western culture and Asian culture, an original approach that portrays the young designers’ past and experiences.  Her main inspiration, however, is to create dreams for the women who wear her dresses.  She does this by designing her dresses to make a women stand out as a feminine, elegant, and beautiful person.
Phuong My has definitely made a name for herself in the fashion industry.  Not only was she the winner of the Discarded to Divine Project 2010 and the Are You Runway Ready Contest September 2010 ($10,000 towards New York Fashion Week), but she was also the opening designer for the New York Fashion Week Kick-Off Event, a guest designer at Macy’s Fashion Night Out, and very proudly featured in Elle Vietnam, Astonish Magazine, Haute Magazine, Asterisk Magazine, and Truxury Magazine.
Currently, all of Phuong My’s designs are hand sewn and custom made, and she is only accepting orders from private customers only. However, Phuong My is in the works at creating an E-Store that will provide a Ready-to-Wear line, and there might be a Menswear line in the mix.
You can stay tuned for Phuong My news, events, photos, and sneak peaks on this blog or on our Facebook Fan Page - www.facebook.com/from.phuongmy 1 year ago
